Senatobia Mississippi Police Fatally Shot One Year Old

Police officer's body camera view during an outdoor traffic stop.

On June 14, 2026, one year old Kohen Wiley was shot and killed outside a Walmart in Senatobia Mississippi. His mother and another woman can be seen running and getting inside a vehicle. A Walmart employee notifies police officers in an office near the front doors of an apparent shoplifting incident. As the vehicle drives off, officers shot into the vehicle killing the 1-year-old. No officers have been charged with a crime, and the Mississippi authorities have labeled the shooting justified as the vehicle was driving toward officers. MAPb and DAPb, however, question the escalation of a minor offense of shoplifting. Police placed themselves in front of the vehicle, had it surrounded with guns drawn, and shot into the moving vehicle. MAPb and DAPb suggest that this tragedy could have been avoided that alternatives to use of deadly force. In this situation and considering the minor offense, de-escalation techniques and practices would have been beneficial in this circumstance and would have likely prevented this tragedy.
